- PONTE VASCO DA GAMA (VASCO DA GAMA BRIDGE)
The Vasco da Gama Bridge is a bridge over the Tagus estuary, in the Greater Lisbon area, linking Montijo and Alcochete to Lisbon and Sacavém, very close to Parque das Nações, where the Expo 98 was held.
With its 12.3 km long it is the longest bridge in Western Europe, the second longest in Europe.
- CASTELO DE PALMELA (THE CASTLE OF PALMELA)
Palmela is a beautiful village, located in the region of Lisbon, in the Peninsula of Setúbal. It is a place blessed by nature, well in the foothills of the beautiful Serra da Arrábida, where there is a phenomenal panorama.
- SETÚBAL
Inhabited since ancient times by the Phoenicians and the Romans, who settled on the south bank of the River Sado.
In the city where Portuguese culture was born, namely Bocage (poet of the 19th century, known for his ironic tone and social criticism that included everything he wrote) and Luísa Todi (an important lyric singer), the Convent of Jesus deserves special mention in a Gothic-Manueline style that houses the City Museum and the San Filipe Fort. Currently converted into a Pousada (hotel), it is a wonderful view over Setúbal, the Sado River, Troia and the Serra da Arrábida.
Around Setúbal we find places of preserved nature, namely the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve, where you can observe dolphins in freedom, as well as the Arrábida Natural Park, that has unique characteristics, with species that can only be found in nearby areas of the Mediterranean.
- ARRÁBIDA
The beaches of Setúbal hand in hand with the Natural Park of Arrábida are one of the biggest attractions of the county. Sponsored by the green mantle of the Arrábida mountain range, which lends its refreshing shade to the crowded beaches, Setúbal offers visitors beaches for all tastes, being Portinho da Arrábida one of the best examples.
- AZEITÃO
The village of Azeitão, internationally known for its vineyards where you can meet one of the oldest wineries in Portugal and enjoy the most famous and intense flavours of the Portuguese wineries, you can still enjoy the excellent olive pies.
You can also learn more about the history and importance of tile in Portugal by visiting the "São Simão" tile factory.
